The Lovers & The Lodgers Are Asleep Round Small Town

This painting emerged late last year. It was a tutorial exercise, to start with. My tutor asked me to paint something without having a finished image in mind. Also, to use structural devices to guide the eye through the narrative and to use colour to assist the sense of space (I failed the colour bit). As usual, some sense of landscape creeps in and before you know it I’m painting my home town.
